Thinking about re-election

I’m planning to run for re-election to Boulder city council later this year. The campaign season doesn’t officially start until those intending to run submit their papers in August. So I am not actually a candidate, and there are no candidates, yet.

But “pre-season” activities are under way, and last night Boulder Progressives hosted the Raucous Caucus. I joined that event and a summary of thoughts I shared in my 60-second opener are below. You can watch the whole event here.

Three things are on my mind:

1. Housing and transportation options: We need to continue to develop policies for better housing and transportation options that work for people of all ages, incomes, and abilities.

2. Wildfire protection (plus): We need to protect our community from wildfires — as well as the mayhem shat the threat of wildfires is wreaking on everything else, like reliable power and the insurance

3. Financial strength: And we need to make Boulder financially strong, so the community can afford what it needs and thrive, this year and in the decades to come. That means city operations, our local economy, collective efforts to include people who are vulnerable, and our place in the climate and natural ecosystems working together.

It’s good to be back.

And I’m glad to be here with my family—Stephanie, Madeleine, and Eva.

I’m looking forward to learning from you how we can develop these ideas and others into a great agenda and work together to get the next city council pointed in the right direction.
